Student unrest and violence in our schools is on the rise and is a very alarming trend. It is a problem in the Kenyan Educational system that is proving hard to handle. The greatest tragedy to go down in Kenya’s history books is the death of 67 students, burnt down in their dormitories in March 2001 at Kyanguli School. This was done by students who were out to revenge on the student administration yet turned out to be the death of their friends. This and many other reported cases of student unrest reflect the magnitude of this problem and bring about the need to understand the causes of the violence.
One of the major factors at play is Anger. Students have either undergone corporal punishment that they think they did not deserve or felt that some issues or concepts were being imposed on them by the school administration. They then end up feeling insignificant and disrespected and to voice their concern they vent in the drastic ways we have seen. It is very important that students learn that being angry is a normal occurrence. Anger is what lets you know that you are being hurt, physically or emotionally. Anger is just an emotion, what makes it negative is our mode of reaction. Students need a system that offers them a method to vent their anger in a productive way that doesn’t harm the rest of the society. This is where the rubber meets the road.
Our Anger Management workshop is designed by experts to help individuals and groups to master their emotions. Take the first step to being free from your past hurts by talking to us and letting us help you deal with the anger.
